Welcome to Collaborative Practice East Bay, CaliforniaThe end of a marriage or committed relationship can be emotionally difficult enough. Often the process of making this a legal and a lasting arrangement only adds to the pain. The process becomes a battleground, and no one wins. But it doesn't have to be this way. A growing number of parting couples have sought a more constructive approach with the help of a team of professionals committed to preserving the well-being of the couple and the family. What is Collaborative Practice?CP is a process for divorcing couples or people ending non-marital relationships who come together with trained professionals--; lawyers, mental health specialists, and financial advisors--to avoid going to court, and to use a respectful, problem-solving approach. Couples pledge in writing to work toward a mutually satisfying and durable agreement without litigation. Especially where children are concerned, the emphasis on safe and open communication, mutual respect, and honest exchange of information about needs and expectations can be especially beneficial. While you may cease to be a couple, you do not cease to be parents or worthy human beings deserving of a hopeful future. Family TransitionsPart of the team approach upon which collaborative practice is based, is to see your family through the entire process. You and your children will be helped to lay the groundwork for a healthy, well-functioning family, post-divorce. While divorce does end a marriage, it does not end a family. CP pledges to help parents and children to preserve family bonds, while embracing new futures. |
